August Roundup: One Month of Blogging

How in the world did I manage to get 8,400 unique visitors, in my first month of blogging? How much have I been blogging and more important; what’re my goals for next month?

First things first,

I haven’t been blogging as much as I wanted to.

Honestly? I think it’s because I haven’t made a plan. I’ve just been blogging whenever I feel like it, about what I feel like. Suddenly, 3 weeks have passed, and I haven’t written a single blog post. That’s actually why I decided to start this… can you call it blog series? I want to become better at blogging and spend more time doing it, rather than my endless procrastination tendencies.

So I’m trying, in my own way, to try and make a plan. Instead of writing in a document, I keep for myself, I want to share everything with you.

So, what’s been happening in the last month?

Blog traffic

I’m sorry to disappoint you here. I honestly have no idea what I did to get 8,400 visitors in just a month. It’s crazy to me. I’ve tried looking at the statistics, but the primary source of my traffic isn’t Pinterest or Instagram as I initially thought. I’m actually not sure where my traffic comes from. A part of it comes from search engines, but most of it isn’t listed. But maybe I’m not looking the right places.

I, however, am working on a blog post about where to promote your blog. Actually, I’ve been working on 4 different entries today, and it ended up being this one I published (mostly because yesterday was my blogs 1 month anniversary). The 3 other entries are about procrastination, time management, promoting your blog and they’re all almost done, so I’ll hopefully post more frequently from now on.

My most popular blogposts

So…. With 5 blog posts in total it’s pretty obvious I haven’t been blogging much. Normally people do a like.. top 5- or even top 10-list of their most popular blog posts; I’ll just list my top 5 … out of 5-list. It’s actually a bit funny, the list is in chronological order, so my most popular post is my most recent and the least popular is my first post.

  1. 53 BLOG POST IDEAS FOR WHEN YOU HAVE NOTHING TO WRITE ABOUT
  2. HOW TO ACHIEVE YOUR GOALS WITH FREE PRINTABLE
  3. HOW TO OVERCOME YOUR FEARS FOR GOOD!
  4. A BIT ABOUT THE GIRL BEHIND THE SCREEN
  5. START OF SOMETHING NEW

It doesn’t really surprise me that my “blog post ideas” entry is the most popular. It’s a popular topic; at least in my world. I wasn’t entirely satisfied with the list, but given that it was the first time making one, I guess it’s OK.

The post about overcoming fears was one I put a lot of work into. So I’m happy to see that people actually read it. It doesn’t really bother me that the more personal entries are at the bottom of the list. My primary focus for my blog is self-improvement and blogging tips. So I’m not expecting this entry to be one of my top posts neither, but it’s something I wanted to make for myself.

Oh btw, I dyed my hair brown! I’ve been blonde for the last 8 years, so it’s a pretty big change! The last time I dyed my hair I dyed it black. Total disaster!

My blogging goals for the next month

1 | Write at least 12 blog posts

  • At least 6 of which should be informative in one way or the other.
  • 4 of them should consist of at least 1,400 words.
  • 4 of them should be a weekly series on something. 1 for each week.

That seems like achievable goals. The four posts consisting of at least 1,400 words is going to be a tough one; I tend to get bored after around 7-800 words so making the jump to 1,400 words is a big step.

Fun fact: My average post length is 854 words.

I also want to start a series on something. I’m not sure if it’s going to be on blogging or self-improvement, but it’s going to be one of these (obviously). And it’s probably going to be my series that’ll contain at least 1,400 words.

2 | Host a giveaway

This is something I’ve wanted to do ever since I started my blog. I’ll admit it’s because it’s “easy” traffic, but I also love giving. The giveaway won’t be sponsored; I’ll find something personal as the prize and buy it. It’s probably going to be something marvelous from Etsy.

The only thing that’s been holding me back is … who would the contests be for? Just people in Denmark, Scandinavia or should I go internationally and just pay the extra fees. It seems like a small thing, but it’s actually a big decision based on the costs in shipping.

So if anyone has any ideas/suggestions for hosting a giveaway (internationally), I’d be more than happy to hear them!

3 | Become more active on social media

  • Choose one platform to start with.
  • Post at least once per day.
  • Engage on others content.
  • Create a social media editorial calendar.

I’m terrible at social media. I post once, maybe twice, on Instagram per week and to keep my facebook-page alive I just reshare my Instagram posts (and yes, including my hashtags which are the same for every post). I have a membership on CoSchedule and Tailwind, but I forget to use them. So I mostly do everything manually, and I think this can be improved significantly.

3 goals should be enough to start with

I don’t want to become overwhelmed by the amount of work I have to do, and I already think my 3 goals are going to consume a lot of time. But, maybe, with the help of CoSchedule and Tailwind, my social media strategy would only take me one day a week to plan and then I don’t have to think more about it.

3 blog posts a week is also a huge jump from where I am now. But I want to start this blog off the right way, and that is by having a lot of quality content. Unfortunately, that won’t magically appear, so I have to set aside some more time for blogging.

I have a to do list as well, for the blog. I’ve been procrastinating a lot lately (hence why I got the idea for the procrastination post I’m writing).

I guess that’s it for now. I’ll probably be back tomorrow or on friday with a more informative blog post 😀

What do you want to read about on the blog?

How did I manage to get 8,400 unique visitors, in my first month of blogging? How much have I been blogging and what're my goals for next month?
